At our school, uniforms have been donated by the JROTC. They have donated all of their green Class B uniforms.
In order to manage a Cadets progress, Merits are given to Students when they accomplish a specific task. For example, if a Cadet dresses out on Dress Out day, they earn a merit. If they do not, they earn a demerit. If they wear their workout uniform to dress out they earn a merit. If not, they earn a demerit. If an assignment is given and the Cadet earns an 80% or above, they earn a merit. Bottom line, the Merit are earned through PERFORMANCE ONLY not behavior as it then becomes to subjective. At the end of the Quarter, the Cadet with the highest amount of Merits can earn Cadet of the Quarter. Also, it helps me monitor which ribbons can be earned (i.e, Good Conduct, etc).
In order to earn their ranks, a Cadet must do a Chapter summary report on one of three books in lieu of SErvice Hours: 6th graders- Fighting Invisible Tigers, 7th Graders- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and 8th Graders- Quiet Power. This aligns with supporting Literacy within our school and also separates those Cadets who want to put forth an effort versus those who don't.
